On October 21-24, 2018 the Millbury community welcomes a team of educators from across New England to our school for our 10-year accreditation visit from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). As a school we view the accreditation process as a chance to share our pride for the way our core values and beliefs drive teaching and learning at Millbury Jr./Sr. High. We anticipate the report of the visiting committee will recognize the achievement and progress of our school, and we will be thrilled to release this report to our community.

The NEASC visiting committee will provide us with a list of commendations and recommendations that will guide curriculum, instruction, and assessment at Millbury Jr./Sr. High School for the next ten years. It is our sincere hope that this report will validate the tremendous work of our faculty, the high expectations of our students, and the impact of our community support in helping our school to best serve our students.

We are currently involved in the self-study phase of our accreditation process (see below). This site will be updated as we complete the respective steps in our self-study, and after the visiting committee shares with our school the results and conclusions drawn from it's three day visit.

About NEASC and the accreditation process
The NEASC accreditation is a system of accountability that is ongoing, voluntary, and comprehensive in scope. It respects differences in institutional populations, missions, and cultures, and fosters institutional change grounded in the judgment of practicing educators. It is based on standards which are developed and regularly reviewed by the members and which define the characteristics of  good schools and colleges.

Commission Standards are high and focus on virtually every aspect of a school or higher education institution’s operation. These standards often are accepted in substitution for standards set by state departments of education. Standards are reviewed periodically by the commissions and the membership, reflecting the voluntary, independent nature of accreditation combined with recognition  of pertinent state and federal regulations.

NEASC accreditation is structured in a ten-year cycle of:

Self-study which engages the entire educational community in structured analysis, self-reflection, and planning in response to the standards.

Peer review which brings discipline and perspective to the process through the observations and judgments of a visiting committee of peers      from other schools and colleges, informed by the self-study and based on the standards.

Follow-up which is monitored by a commission of elected peers and overseen by a professional staff to ensure that planned and prescribed institutional change is accomplished and which provides for intervention, as necessary, to respond to information gathered in regular reports from the institution or through complaints from the public concerning a failure to comply with the standards.
